Big Trev has sold the business, and the new owners of his takeaway have no interest in live music, sadly, there will be no more Panda Rooms at big Trevs. The good news is that the new owners of The Mountain View Hotel at Little Mulgrave have taken the live music bull by the horns and are planning on turning the venue into a live music mecca, a sentiment that warms the cockles of our jaded little hearts here at Panda Central. The Panda Room will be popping up at it’s new home at the Mountain View on a monthly basis under the guise of ‘Mountainfest’ and possibly various other monikers, and ENTRY IS FREE!
Last months Panda room was an amazing turnout, and Panda Room regulars were very positive about the new location, bigger stage, more cover from rain, great beer on tap and amazing food plus you can camp for free and forget about the drive home. Even torrential rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of punters at the last Mountainfest. As per Big Trevs, there are no noise restrictions, and the Panda Room sound system sounds fantastic at The Mountain View.
The next Panda Room Mountainfest gig will be staged on Saturday 16th March. On March’s lineup we have..
The Joker Pokers
The Joker Pokers are a collection of musical fringe dwellers teetering on the boundaries of good taste. They will take you on a genre mashing journey to a destination unknown featuring a sound palette of Acoustic Guitar, Slide guitar, Hammond organ, Rhodes piano, Synths, Violin and Banjo. Of course these are all mangled with a host of effects, delays and everything in between.
The Joker Pokers are fronted by Fraser Scott, who has shared the stage with the big guns around the world. He supported the likes of Artic Monkeys, Damien Rice, Snow Patrol, Band of Skulls, The Rubens, Reef, Tom Jones the list goes on. He is a master of anything stringed and gifted with some golden tonsils.

The Brazilians
Defacto Panda Room House band The Brazilians will be playing from 9.10pm until late. The band will be officially releasing their new single ‘the Long Haul’ on 16th March at The Mountain View. The Brazilians were borne in the pubs nestled amongst the Mulgrave Delta cane fields of Gordonvale. The band got their start playing loud and proud, the twin guitar attack of Macalpine & Williams competing against the industrial din of the Gordonvale sugar mill pumping 24/7 across the road from their gigs. the band is currently working on their 3rd album.
“The Brazilians rock. Has a great tough swagger!!!!! Love it” – Ray Ahn, The Hard Ons
“Blending the lyrical wit and wisdom of Supersuckers and the musical chops of AC/DC getting their blues on” – Dave Franklin, Dancing About Architecture
“This is clearly one of those songs that needs to cranked to 11 to be truly appreciated” – Nkechie Anele JJJ Roots ‘N’ All (On Rise Up)
“World Class” – Irene Barrett, Rock & Blues Downunder radio show 89.1 Cairns FM
